Setting up your own AI provider key

The Unlimited plan lets you use your own AI provider's API key instead of paying Issary for managed AI access. You manage that provider's billing and limits directly — Issary just uses the key you provide to make AI requests from your device.

1. Get an API key from a compatible provider

Sign up with a compatible AI API provider and generate an API key from their developer dashboard. Keep it somewhere safe — you'll paste it into Issary in the next step, and it won't be shown again by most providers.

2. Add the key in Issary

In the app, open Settings → Subscription, and select Configure API Key under the Unlimited plan section. Paste your key and save — Issary stores it locally on your device and uses it directly for AI requests going forward.

3. Confirm it's working

Try an AI action (e.g. drafting a reply or summarizing a thread). If the key is rejected, double-check it was copied in full and that your account with that provider has available usage/billing set up.

Costs and limits

Your AI usage is billed directly by your chosen provider according to their pricing — Issary doesn't add a markup or cap on top of what your provider allows. Your Issary subscription fee covers the app itself, not AI usage, on this plan.
